A brand-new Skyrim mod has given the game’s wait menu a massive overhaul, inspired by CD Projekt Red titles The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. This particular Skyrim mod gives some much-needed flair to a neglected part of the game.

The Skyrim modding community continues to go from strength to strength. As the years pass, more advancements are made that allow players to make Skyrim look like it was a 2024 release. Just recently, one gamer even developed a Skyrim mod that allows Twitch chat to speak for NPCs, which had predictably hilarious results. The great thing about Skyrim modding is how personal it is for every gamer. Some will spend days curating their perfect Skyrim modlist, resulting in a load order with thousands of plugins, while others will pick up a few quality-of-life mods to improve the experience a little. There’s no right or wrong way to do it, which is why it’s a big part of the reason Skyrim remains so active, 13 years after its original launch.

The mod itself is available on Nexus Mods, titled “Modern Wait Menu” by user Fallen01135. Footage of the Skyrim mod in action was posted online by YouTuber ARCTIC, and it looks slick. The previous wait menu in Skyrim is gone, replaced by a more modern wheel UI, taking inspiration from CD Projekt Red titles The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. Now, players can see the exact time of day they’re waiting until, as well as the weather at the time. It’s a lot more intuitive and helps make Skyrim feel like a much more modern title.

According to the mod’s Nexus Mods page, “Modern Wait Menu” has been designed with compatibility in mind. This means that it shouldn’t conflict with other Skyrim UI mods or font replacers, ensuring players don’t have to choose between this and another mod. Because of this, it instantly becomes one of the must-have quality-of-life Skyrim mods for anyone playing the game in 2024 and beyond.

With what is now possible thanks to mods in Skyrim, The Elder Scrolls 6 has an extremely tough act to follow. Luckily, Bethesda has form for hiring exceptional modders in years gone by, and hopefully this shines through with its upcoming Elder Scrolls sequel. With Starfield now released, hopefully the studio can be a little more forthcoming about what players can expect from The Elder Scrolls 6, with no release window currently given for the game. The good news is that The Elder Scrolls 6 is in a playable state already, so hopefully gamers’ patience with the sequel will soon pay off.
