Since the addition of solar panels, electric fences can be built in Sons of the Forest. Players can survive on the island by holding off the cannibal and mutant hordes living there. The remote island has complex cave systems, a tall snowy mountain, and an enormous forest to explore and build on. Shelters can be placed easily using a single tarp in most spots, but there are benefits to finding an area or two to build a base on.

Houses, treehouses, and several other structures can be built in Sons of the Forest, and players will want to protect their base camps with traps and fences to thwart enemy attacks. Electric fences will shock enemies and animals that come into contact with them. This stuns and damages them, allowing players to run or land a killing blow. Setting one up only requires a few common materials, so here’s everything you need to know to build an electric fence in Sons of the Forest.

Electric fences are one way for players to fight back against enemies. The longer they stay on the island, the more hostile cannibals and mutants get. This can quickly overwhelm during solo playthroughs, so preparing defenses is a good idea. Players can gather the following materials to build an electric fence:

  • Sticks
  • Wire
  • Solar Panel
  • Golf Cart Battery (Optional)

The amount of each depends on how big you want the fence to be. All the materials can be picked up around the island. Sticks are found on the ground throughout the forest, and players can use an axe or other large blade to cut down small bush trees and collect sticks. Kelvin can also be told to gather sticks using the notepad.

Wires, solar panels, and golf cart batteries are harder to find. Wire and sometimes solar panels are inside tubs and other containers at most camps. They can also be picked up inside bunkers. Maintenance bunkers, in particular, will likely have solar panels and golf cart batteries.

Alternatively, players can use cheats to spawn all the materials needed for an electric fence. To activate cheats in Sons of the Forest, type in “cheatstick” and hit F1. This will pull up the chest command list if done correctly. Players must then type in “spawnitem (item ID #) (desired quantity)”

Every item, object, and enemy in Sons of the Forest has an associated ID number. For example, players can type in “spawnitem 661 10” to get 10 golf cart batteries dropped in front of them.
