Soulmask is an amazing indie survival game that allows players to take on the role of a character who has stumbled upon an ancient mask after escaping from a human sacrifice ritual.

While trying to explore the harsh terrain of the world they have been dropped into; players will need to build bases to ensure their survival. Here’s a guide to the best ones to start out with.

What Are Bases?

Bases are where players will be able to build up their own tribe within the game. It is important to find areas that are located near vital resources and that aren’t prone to being attacked. This way, players can gather the resources necessary to build bases and items, but don’t need to worry about their tribesmen dying. This can also help them while working on upgrading their starting mask. In bases, players can place a campfire, which will act as a place to revive, and have their tribesmen work on gathering resources. While players can have multiple bases, most players will only have one when starting out and can then work on building more.

The Best General Starter Base

The best area to start off with is this small lake located extremely close to where players begin. This lake offers players access to water and clay, while the forests around them offer access to trees, bushes, stones, and plenty of small animals to hunt. It is also the best place to ensure that the base isn’t attacked, as there is no real threat around it.

The only real downside to this base is that it is truly a starter base location. Players will have to travel to access other resources (such as various types of ore and cotton) and to reach any of the game’s Ancient Ruins.

The Best Resource Base

This base can be found northwest of the first base. This is a base that has access to so many resources that can be invaluable to players as they work to progress in the game. There is access to water, clay, trees, bushes, stone, and even iron and tin. The amount of resources available makes it an amazing spot.

The only downside to this location is the predators. Players will run into both alligators and jaguars here, meaning that any base built in this area will require some extra defenses built.

The Best Leveling Base

This area is at the very end of the river flowing through the starting area. It is located close to several different Ancient Ruins and enemies, meaning it is an excellent place to camp out if someone is trying to level up quickly.

However, this location has some downsides. For example, since it is located to so many enemies, chances are it will be attacked quite regularly, making it a dangerous place for tribesmen to work.
