The Tactical Marine is perhaps the most versatile class in Space Marine 2. It doesn’t particularly excel in one area, but with the extensive selection of weapons available to the class, players can gear up to handle all manners of threats and fill in any gaps the team might have.

While players can get away with any loadout they want in the easier difficulty levels of Space Marine 2, playing on Ruthless will demand an optimized build. Below is one possible Tactical build for those who want to take on the biggest threats the Tyranids and the Forces of Chaos can muster.

How To Play The Tactical Class In Space Marine 2

The Tactical is a ranged-oriented class with access to a wide selection of primary weapons, allowing it to adapt based on the needs of the squad. If your team needs extra horde clearing power, then an Auto Bolt Rifle might suffice. If you lack long-range damage, then the venerable Stalker Bolt Rifle or Plasma Incinerator might be the better options.

Your job as a Tactical Marine is to provide fire support for your battle brothers. The Auspex Scan ability increases the damage taken by all marked enemies, perfect for taking out priority targets like Zoanthropes and Tyranid Warriors. However, the Tactical’s playstyle largely depends on what weapon players decide to bring — having access to the best primary weapons in Space Marine 2 lets players pick a more specialized role on the fly, whether it be as a horde clearer or a heavy unit hunter.

The Core perks listed here are all flexible. If you’re using the Plasma Incinerator, use Plasma Boost to get 30% extra damage when the weapon’s heat level is over 50%. If you’re using Bolt guns, go with Kraken Penetrator Rounds, so your shots can pierce through one extra enemy.

The Team perk Transhuman Physiology is the most universal of the available options, and it works best if you’re teamed up with either an Assault marine or a Bulwark in Space Marine 2. If you have a Sniper or a Heavy, consider using the other perks, which either reduce the team’s recoil or increase everyone’s ranged damage.

Best Tactical Weapons

Standard Issue Plasma Incinerator in Space Marine 2

For the purpose of killing big targets as quickly as possible, the Plasma Incinerator, Stalker Bolt Rifle, and Heavy Bolt Rifle are our weapons of choice. The latter’s damage-per-shot value is weaker than that of the other two, but it is better at clearing groups of smaller targets like Hormogaunts and Cultists. Pick whichever you prefer more.

Use the highest-tier weapon you can, and pick perks that maximize your damage whenever possible. Weapon variants that deal the most damage are also preferred. This is so you can capitalize on Auspex Scan’s massive damage boost.

Unfortunately, the Tactical class does not have any other Secondary and Melee options apart from the Bolt Pistol and Chainsword. These two are very reliable weapons, however. Don’t forget to unlock their upgraded versions whenever you can. You’ll be using your Primary Weapon more often than these, so feel free to pick Bolt Pistol and Chainsword variants based on personal preference.

Weapon perks can be reset at the Armouring Hall for free, and for as many times as you want.
