10 Pro Tips For System Shock Remake

Those hoping to jump into the new System Shock remake will need to know a couple of handy pro tips before facing off against SHODAN.

The original System Shock was an immediate hit, which prompted developers to create a remake for PC in 2023. Since then, many have wondered if System Shock would launch for consoles, and an official announcement has confirmed the release. The System Shock remake will be released on May 21 for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The game will be available in digital versions for all platforms, but physical versions will only be available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

System Shock Remake Release Date Confirmed for PlayStation and Xbox

  • The System Shock remake releases on May 21 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

The System Shock remake introduces numerous changes from the 1994 game, some of which improve it immensely. The visual overhaul has the most immediate impact, but other quality-of-life improvements enhance the overall experience. The new interface is less cluttered, providing a cleaner look during gameplay. The game’s movement has become more akin to modern first-person games, and the redesigned controls for console gamepads should further improve fluidity. Not least, adding a female protagonist allows the immersive sim to be even more engaging for everyone who wants to enjoy this experience.

One of the remake’s additions is a different ending from the original version, which was a point of negative criticism from fans. The confrontation with the evil AI SHODAN, considered one of the best game villains, has a different outcome than those who played the 1994 version or even the System Shock: Enhanced Edition from 2015. Those who want to witness the new ending know that the System Shock remake takes about 20 to 25 hours to beat on a normal playthrough.

While handling the remake, Nightdive Studios also worked on an Enhanced Edition of System Shock 2. However, the studio has yet to disclose a release date. In previous announcements, Nightdive Studios mentioned that those who purchased the System Shock remake would receive System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition for free upon its release. This promotion was valid for the PC version, but now that the game is also being released for consoles, it remains to be seen if it extends to PlayStation and Xbox users.
