Highlights

  • The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered will include cut content.
  • The inclusion of scenes like the sewers and the boar hunt adds new gameplay elements and expands the post-apocalyptic world of the game.
  • The Remastered version also hints at a potential missed opportunity to explore the emotional journey of Ellie during her trip from Jackson to Seattle, offering a more cohesive narrative experience.

Some people might be a little weary about remastering The Last Of Us Part 2 just over three years after its original release, especially because the PS4 game is fully functional on PS5. However, Naughty Dog is offering appealing bonuses like a roguelike survival mode, and will also give fans a playable glimpse into cut content.

Story-Heavy Games To Play If You Like The Last Of Us Part 2

The Last Of Us Part 2 is one of the most story-heavy games around, and these titles will scratch the same itch.

Thanks to some detective work by fans and journalists, the public has an idea of what these areas will be. Hopefully, they are right, and it would also be great if the developer had some more tricks up their sleeve to surprise players when the title launches in January 2024. If the areas listed below are included, many The Last of Us fans will be happy.

While the game is being sold as a full, standalone title, owners of The Last of Us Part 2 can upgrade to the Remastered version for just $10

7 More Santa Barbara

Stretch Out A Short Segment

Ellie Looking at rattlers graffiti

Compared to the other areas of the game, the Santa Barbara segment with Ellie feels a little short and rushed. She arrives, is captured, and then escapes to find Abby and Lev in relatively a short span of time.

Many feel like something was cut from this segment, and it would be eye-opening if the Remaster let gamers in on the secret of what exactly was cut. Rumors have been swirling around about a sequence with a crashed plane.

6 The Dance Scene

Make The Cutscene Playable

Ellie and Dina Dancing

One of the opening scenes involves a dance in Jackson. This is done purely through a cinematic. Elise Favis’ article from Launcher detailing cut content from The Last of Us Part 2 confirms that this scene was originally playable.

The Last Of Us VS The Last Of Us Part 2: Which Game Is Better?

Both games in The Last of Us series have received a fair amount of praise. Here is a look at which is better, the original or Part 2.

It is easy to see why this was cut, since players get to experience plenty of Jackson in the game already. However, it would only make sense for the segment to make it into the lost levels segment of the Remaster.

5 Sewers

The Only Evidence We Have Is The Name, But It Is Already Enticing

This scene is fairly likely to be included in the remaster because it was listed in the same info leak that revealed the game in the first place. What exactly the sewers will be is hard to discern. However, in a post-apocalyptic game like The Last of Us Part 2, it can never mean anything good.

Why this scene was cut remains a mystery that should be answered if it is included. Perhaps it ended up being too similar to the underground tunnels segment from the first game where Joel and Ellie are with Sam and Henry.

4 Boar Hunt

A Hunt For Some Food Hinted At In Ellie’s Journal

The Last of Us Part 2 Ellie Gun Woods

The same leak that revealed the Sewers also mentions an area called Boar Hunt. It is easy to imagine this being another scene from Jackson where Joel and Ellie, or another character, hunt down a boar for food.

Perhaps it could have mirrored the scene in the first game where Ellie hunts the deer and encounters David, only this time it would go off without a hitch, showcasing just how peaceful life in Jackson is compared to what they used to deal with. It could just as likely take place later in the story, however, since going out for revenge does not stop Ellie’s appetite.

3 Something On The Way To Seattle

It’s A Long Trip And Nothing Is Mentioned Of It In The Full Game

The game jumps rather abruptly from Jackson, Wyoming, to Seattle, Washington. Those familiar with geography know there is a large distance between the two locations. Was it always the plan to have the game jump like this or was there something more?

Given the amount of time it would take to go from Jackson to Seattle on horseback, it seemed like there should have been a calm scene between Dina and Ellie, where the latter could express her feelings about the loss she just witnessed.

2 A Trek Through The Seraphite Village

Ellie Explored The Village Before It Burned Down

last of us horse ride thtough village

Elise Favis’ article from Launcher also details a cut scene of Ellie making her way through the Seraphite, or Scar, village. This is the cult Lev ran away from. Since players only really get to see the place while it is almost in ruins, this chapter would have shown what it was like during a lull in the action, at least as much of a lull as there can be when the world is covered in infected creatures.

10 Games To Play If You Like The Last Of Us Part 1

The Last of Us Part 1 is a spectacle in cinematic storytelling and companionship. Here is a list of other games that share the same qualities.

As it is now, players do not get to know the cult as much more than the extremist villains they are portrayed as. This is not to say the game wanted people to sympathize with the cult, but The Last of Us Part 2 is all about humanizing the villains, even while still showing that what they are doing is wrong.

1 Esther’s Death

Joel Originally Had A Girlfriend

Perhaps the most enlightening cut level revealed to us by the Launcher article is the discovery of Joel’s girlfriend, Esther. There was going to be a flashback where she was bitten and she and Joel walked off-screen before players heard a gunshot. It was ambiguous whether she pulled the trigger herself or if Joel did it.

The article goes on to explain that it was cut because the game didn’t give enough time for Esther to be fleshed out as a character to make her loss feel impactful. There’s no need to build up the character to show off a lost level, since it is more a document of what could have been rather than becoming a part of the finished product.
