Rumor: The MCU’s Thunderbolts Plot May Have Been Revealed
The Thunderbolts plot is rumored to be completely different than originally expected and very similar to a DC movie, worrying fans.
Speaking with Comicbook at the SDCC, Harbour opened up about the film and didn’t shy away from saying that Thunderbolts will change the course of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But he quickly understood that he might have spoken a little too much and stopped himself from saying anything else. Harbour said, “Our characters are going to interact with something that we don’t really understand, and it fundamentally changes the course of the way things expand. That’s all I’m saying. Oh my God, I’m getting calls tomorrow.” Of course, he didn’t answer how it is going to achieve that feat, but this little tease might have made Marvel fans excited.
Harbour’s comments are nothing new. Most of the Marvel actors or makers say that this project would change the course of the MCU. However, only some of them really do. The most recent example is Shawn Levy’s Deadpool & Wolverine. The stars, makers, and even Kevin Feige said that this could be a game-changer for the MCU and could open the door for many more stories. Although it did include some really massive cameos, the movie had very little to offer when it came to the storyline and how it would affect the upcoming set of titles. So, there can be a lot of meanings to what Harbour said, but in the end, fans would have to wait and see if Thunderbolts really changes the course of MCU or not.
In Marvel Comics, The Thunderbolts is an ensemble of superheroes and supervillains that debuted in The Incredible Hulk #449 in January 1997. This team, composed of reformed supervillains, is recruited to undertake missions for the United States government and the CIA. Over the years, their motivations have evolved, but their core premise remains the same: they are united to become a formidable force for good. Although there have been several members in The Thunderbolts, in the MCU, fans will see Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian (Harbour), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), John Walker/U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Ava/Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) and Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan). Moreover, the team will be led by Contessa Val (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). As of now, all plot details have been kept under wraps and Thunderbolts can take any route to make things more interesting.
Thunderbolts is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 2, 2025, and will be the last project of the MCU’s Phase 5.
