Nightdive Studios has released update 1.1.0 for Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion Remastered. This patch comes months after the game became available on a wide range of contemporary systems.

Launched last December, Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion Remastered offers fans a faithful restoration of the Turok series’ eponymous third mainline entry from 2000. The most prominent upgrade of Nightdive Studios’ remaster is its enhanced visual presentation, but it also introduced many modern features like support for 4K resolution and 120 FPS, among other things. While the most recent update for the game did not add the multiplayer segment that fans have been clamoring for, it did deliver a lot of welcome optimizations.

Originally based on a comic book, the Turok game series began as an N64-exclusive FPS but went on hit multiple platforms across several generations.

The 1.1.0 update for Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion Remastered addressed a long list of bugs and issues. In addition, the patch brought many gameplay tweaks and quality-of-life improvements to the remaster, which is one of the many games that are Steam Deck verified. Nightdive Studios’ latest update also further developed the modding tools and level editor that are available with Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion Remastered‘s PC version.

Like the Nintendo 64 exclusive it was based on, Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion Remastered has received mostly favorable reviews, and it currently has a Very Positive overall rating on Steam. The original Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion, developed by the now-defunct Acclaim Studios Austin, is considered to be one of the best Nintendo 64 FPS games. However, it is also considered by many people to be the weakest among the three mainline Turok games that were released.

Nightdive Studios, which is known for creating modern releases of old games and abandonware, was also responsible for the remasters of the original Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and its sequel, Turok 2: Seeds of Evil. Aside from Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion, the company released remasters of Rise of the Triad and Quake 2, as well as a complete remake of System Shock, in 2023.

Following the launch of Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion Remastered, Nightdive Studios is still focusing on a remaster of LucasArts’ Star Wars: Dark Forces that will run on its proprietary KEX Engine and offer many modern features and quality-of-life improvements. Stephen Kick, co-founder and CEO of Nightdive Studios, revealed last August that the company also has plans to create a remaster of The Darkness, the 2007 FPS developed by Starbreeze Studios that was based on the Top Cow Productions comic book series of the same name.
