Ubisoft, the studio behind the Assassin’s Creed franchise and Riders Republic, has announced a new fantasy football game to coincide with the 2024-2025 NFL regular season and the 2024 Pro Football Hall of Fame. Developed under Ubisoft Saguenay, the upcoming title offers something new in the publisher’s portfolio for football fans.

Previously, Ubisoft flirted with soccer-themed games like 1995’s Action Soccer and 2010’s Pure Football and this venture will be the first NFL-licensed project for the studio, adding to a host of Ubisoft franchises. The 2024-2025 NFL season is scheduled to begin on Thursday, September 5, after Labor Day, comprising 272 games spread over 18 weeks.

NFL Primetime Fantasy is a free-to-play fantasy football mobile title in partnership with the NFL and the NFLPA with gameplay catered to virtual cards. A trailer was also released alongside the announcement that showcased the game’s interface, points system, and what players can expect from in-game animations. Players will open card packs, build their roster, and make “real-time decision-making” during live games based on how players are performing. Additionally, football enthusiasts will compete against friends in a playoff tournament during the current season and the post-season heading into the Super Bowl 2025. Last season, Madden NFL 24 predicted the Super Bowl winner, and players may be able to channel a similar insight through their skills in the card game.

Ubisoft’s NFL Primetime Fantasy Offers Real-Time Strategy Alongside Live Games

Developed for iOS and Android devices, the mobile game will be released after the current NFL season begins, as Ubisoft confirmed the worldwide launch is scheduled for November. However, interested football fans can now pre-register for the beta through the official NFL Primetime Fantasy website, and those who sign up will receive an Early Access bundle for free at launch, including a Classic+ Card Pack and 100 Adrenaline Points.

President of NFL Players Inc. Matt Curtin explained, “This innovative game lets fans use their favorite stars and make real-time decisions that impact their fantasy outcomes, bringing them closer to the game and the players they love.” Ubisoft’s NFL contribution is an exciting endeavor to add to the studio’s published works and arrives at a good time for restless fans of Electronic Arts’ NFL franchise. The Madden series entered an uphill content battle in recent years, according to players, who seek more innovation between entries beyond cosmetic additions.

The next four months are already packed for the French publisher, with Star Wars Outlaws releasing this month, followed by Assassin’s Creed Shadows in November, and both titles have had their fair share of controversies so far, including backlash regarding the appearance of Outlaw’s protagonist. Luckily, Ubisoft has managed to pique the interest of the football community with its NFL companion game, and interested players are excited about getting a hands-on experience once the NFL Primetime Fantasy beta rolls around.
