PS Plus has an extensive Classics Catalog for Premium subscribers, full of titles from previous PlayStation generations. Stretching back to the original PlayStation console to the PS2, PS3, and PSP consoles, there is a wide variety of classic titles for PS Plus Premium subscribers to enjoy and new games are added each month. What’s more, sometimes, new titles will be added to the Classics Catalog that may tease upcoming modern titles, and that may very well be the case this month, as rumors surrounding the upcoming PlayStation showcase could be directly connected to what is added to the Classics Catalog in the coming weeks.
There is currently no confirmed date for the next PlayStation showcase, but rumors and leaks suggest it will either be sometime this month or next. There are plenty of other rumors pointing to what games might be revealed during the showcase as well, including the highly anticipated Ghost of Tsushima 2. However, other anticipated titles include the Silent Hill 2 remake and the Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, which are both rumored to be revealed during the showcase. As such, a look into what could potentially be added to PS Plus’ Classics Catalog later this month might be a telltale sign of whether the Silent Hill 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3 remakes will be featured in the upcoming PlayStation showcase.
PS Plus: A Comprehensive List Of Every Monthly Game It’s Added
Since relaunching the subscription service in June 2022, Sony has added a host of games per month to PlayStation Plus Essential, Extra, and Premium.
Potential Additions to PS Plus’ Classics Catalog Could Be a Sign of Things to Come
The Original Silent Hill 2 Potentially Being Added Could Pave the Way for Its Place in the Showcase
Considered by some to be one of the best games of all time, Silent Hill 2 is a survival horror game that was originally released in 2001 for the PlayStation 2. In 2022, a remake of Silent Hill 2 was announced during the Silent Hill Transmission event. Since its announcement, it has not received a lot of official updates — only that it is slated for a 2024 release. Now that the first quarter of 2024 has come and gone, the release of the Silent Hill 2 remake is closer than ever.
Despite having a 2024 release window, there has yet to be an official reveal for the Silent Hill 2 remake. However, recent rumors suggest that it could be revealed in the upcoming PlayStation showcase. This is where the PS Plus Classics Catalog can come into play. If the original Silent Hill 2 (or even the original Silent Hill) is added to the Classics Catalog later this month, it could all but prove the rumors of its impending reveal true, as PS Plus has been known to tease future releases by adding past games to its library.
Silent Hill 2 Remake
Silent Hill 2 is a remake of the classic 2001 survival-horror game, developed by Bloober Team and published by Konami. It features an over-the-shoulder camera and gameplay changes inspired by other horror game remakes.
The Potential Addition of the Original Metal Gear Solid 3 to the Classics Catalog Could Signal Its Upcoming Reveal
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is a 2004 action-adventure stealth game and the fifth game developed for the Metal Gear Solid series. To this day, it is considered one of the best installments in the franchise. Although it was the fifth game to be developed for the Metal Gear franchise, it serves as a prequel to the entire series. Now, it will be receiving a remake in the form of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, which is set for a 2024 release.
Like Silent Hill 2, if the original Metal Gear Solid 3 is added to the PS Plus Classics Catalog later this month, it could mean a reveal for the remake is coming with the PlayStation showcase as well. In fact, if any classic Metal Gear games are added, fans should expect some news to be coming soon.
It’s currently unclear when the showcase will be happening, but it shouldn’t be any later than June. In that case, the long-awaited reveals for the Silent Hill 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3 remakes may be right around the corner.
