Season of Discovery is the newest experimental World of Warcraft server that introduces twists to the Classic formula. Among these changes, Runes – collectible abilities and passives World of Warcraft players can engrave on their equipment – are one of the most exciting, as they can completely change how certain classes can operate. Phase 2 of WoW Classic Season of Discovery goes live on February 8 and adds a slew of new Runes to every class in the game.
World of Warcraft Classic Teases New Leveling Tool in Season of Discovery
World of Warcraft Classic reveals a charming new tool players can collect in Season of Discovery to make leveling even easier than it already is.
World of Warcraft had previously teased some of these new Runes in a blog post, but now it has shown off how some of them work firsthand. In a short video on its official Twitter, World of Warcraft showcased just a few of these Runes in action, including Mage’s Chronostatic Preservation, Hunter’s Trap Launcher, Shaman’s Maelstrom Weapon, and Priest’s Dispersion. Though each of these Runes looks amazing, this video is only a taste of the dozens of Runes coming in Season of Discovery Phase 2.

Most of the new Runes are engravings for the Boot and Belt slot, allowing each class to equip two more Runes alongside the ones from Phase 1. World of Warcraft confirmed each class in Season of Discovery would be getting around six or seven new Runes total in Phase 2, which means, when combined with the 108 from Phase 1, there will be over 160 Runes in total for players to collect, with even more on the way in future Season of Discovery phases.
That isn’t all Classic players can look forward to in Season of Discovery Phase 2. World of Warcraft is also adding Skill Books to certain dungeons. These rare drops unlock quality-of-life passive and active abilities but do not take up Rune engravings slots, meaning they can be used at the same time. Fans will be able to participate in the Blood Moon PvP event in Stranglethorn Vale, and they can enter the new 10-man raid version of Gnomeregan when they reach the raised level cap of 40. World of Warcraft is also giving all players below level 25 a permanent 50% experience boost, which is already live in the game, so now is the perfect time to hop in and see what the Season of Discovery is all about.
