Key Takeaways

  • Ubisoft releases new patch update for XDefiant.
  • Latest update includes a highly-requested feature: Private Matches.
  • The new XDefiant update also includes multiple bug fixes and reverts weapon-level progression changes introduced in update 2.3.

XDefiant developer Ubisoft San Francisco has released another update for its free-to-play first-person shooter, bringing with it a whole host of improvements and fixes across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Following on from the launch of XDefiant Season 2 in September, Ubisoft is continuing to release a steady stream of new patches to address some of the shooter’s biggest issues. Although the latest update is merely to address some of XDefiant‘s bugs, Ubisoft has also added a highly-requested feature that players will want to check out.

Since its launch back in May, XDefiant has had a bumpy few months. At one point, XDefiant was dubbed among the first-person shooter community as the “COD killer” due to its fast-paced arcade-style gameplay and lack of skill-based matchmaking, the latter of which has been a hot topic in the Call of Duty community for many years. However, recent rumors have suggested that the game’s player base has dwindled so much since launch that Ubisoft is planning to end support for XDefiant after Season 4. Shortly after talk of a potential shutdown began circulating, the game’s executive producer took to social media to dispel the rumors, stating that he has already had meetings surrounding Year 2 of XDefiant, with absolutely no plans to shut down after Season 4.

Rumor: XDefiant’s Future in Doubt With Declining Player Count

Ubisoft’s recently released 6v6 multiplayer FPS XDefiant seems to be struggling several months after launch as player numbers stagnate.

With Ubisoft insisting that XDefiant is here for the long haul, support for the first-person shooter continues with yet another update. Available to download now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, the new patch aims to address a plethora of issues, while also adding a highly-requested feature: Private Matches. Once players have downloaded and installed the new update, they can then host their very own lobbies, invite friends, and play XDefiant privately.

This highly requested XDefiant feature isn’t the only thing included in the latest update, as there are also a large number of bug fixes and improvements. Alongside fixes to the Highwaymen faction, maps, and more, Ubisoft has also deployed a fix for a melee glitch that was allowing players to rack up damage with rapid taps of the melee button, despite only hitting the enemy with a single strike.

Weapon leveling and progression have always been a hot topic in the XDefiant community, but there’s another change inbound with the latest update. According to the patch notes, the new weapon-level threshold introduced in update 2.3 has been reverted to its previous numbers, which means primary weapons now level up every 1,500 XP and secondary weapons every 500 XP. Ubisoft says it is aware the slower progression introduced in update 2.3 “wasn’t ideal,” so the aim is to make things feel much smoother from the latest update.

XDefiant Y1S2.5 Patch Notes for November 2024 Update

Gameplay

  • Fixed a glitch allowing players to rack up melee damage with rapid taps of the Melee button, despite the corresponding animation only showing a single strike.

Factions

  • Highwaymen
    • Launching the Highwaymen’s Buzzsaw Launcher ultra no longer crashes the game (which was pretty on brand for the Highwaymen but not really a great experience for players).
    • Highwaymen no longer perform the M79’s reload animation when canceling the skill after firing off one grenade.
    • The Major Challenge tied to unlocking the Highwaymen faction wasn’t doing its job upon completion, but now it’s unlocking them as intended.

Maps

  • Daytona
    • Fixed a funky invisible obstruction in the Daytona map that was blocking bullets.

Game Modes

  • Private Matches
    • In response to high community interest, players can now host Private Matches. The host player forms a lobby, selects the game mode and map, and invites other players to the lobby. Once there, players can invite more players (or the host can kick them out). Once a Private Match ends, all participants are returned to the Private Match lobby (or the host can end the match early if they want).
  • Zone Control
    • Fixed an issue preventing players from capturing a Zone if the opposing team contested the Zone in the final moments of capture.

Progression

  • Reverted the weapon-level threshold changes from update 2.3 to the previous numbers: Primaries now level up every 1,500 XP and Secondaries every 500 XP. This change is retroactive, so you’ll get credit for XP gains as if these levels had been in place all along. We know the slower progression in 2.3 wasn’t ideal, especially for players who focus on completing objectives rather than scoring kills, so this should make things feel smoother. Thank you for your patience.

Devices

  • Smoke Grenade
    • Light emanating from windows, doorways, and similar portals should no longer be visible through the cloud cast by smoke grenades.

Miscellaneous

  • Fixed the Ninja Sprint animation so it runs correctly on the store preview and MVP screens.
