Highlights

  • Marvel heroes like Wolverine and Deadpool have no hesitation in killing their enemies, even if it means taking out entire groups or universes.
  • Venom, despite being an anti-hero, often indulges in fresh kills, with one notable kill being the creator of Symbiotes, Knull.
  • Scarlet Witch has the power to alter realities and has killed fellow heroes and even eradicated the mutant race without hesitation or regret.

There are quite a few Marvel heroes who are not afraid to cross that line between life and death. Many of the best Marvel heroes have killed, and they won’t hesitate to do it again if it means keeping the lives of innocent people safe. Whilst some more iconic heroes like Spider-Man outright refuse to kill, there are some heroes who are more serious about disrespecting the no-kill rule for their own purposes.

New Marvel villains rose to test heroes in 2023, but which of them were memorable, and do they have a future?

There are more heroes in Marvel that kill than there are in DC Comics, and there’s a reason for that, usually assisted by powers or past, these heroes do not hesitate to kill for their own reasons that they feel it not necessary to explain to other heroes or to the law that they claim that they are above.

6 Wolverine

Notable Kills: The X-Men

wolverine and hulk fighting

A man who is over a century old, with literal claws that come out of his forearms, there’s no shocker that this bladed man kills. Wolverine has been on many teams over the years, from X-Men, and Avengers, to the X-Force. In the X-Force, Wolverine was a straight-up killer, using his powers and stealth to take out enemies that just shouldn’t be around anymore as a threat. However, his most notable kills come from a lack of hesitation, albeit, due to mind control.

Wolverine was once manipulated by Mysterio to kill the entire X-Men, and considering his adamantium claws and healing factor, this wasn’t exactly a hard fight for him. However, outside of this manipulation, Wolverine has also killed some enemies, like Sabretooth and Omega Red.

5 Venom

Notable Kills: Knull

There’s a reason that Venom is called the Lethal Protector. Whilst he may have started as a villain and resides somewhat in the anti-hero territory, when the Venom Symbiote and Eddie Brock get together, they usually end up doing more good than bad. The duo are inseparable, and their love is etched into the Marvel Universe well beyond the end of the world.

New heroes arise in the Marvel Universe, but which of them were the best for their 2023 debut?

As a Symbiote, Venom needs food, so it makes sense that Eddie indulges Venom in a fresh kill, especially if they deserve it. One of the more notable kills of Venom is Knull, the creator and god of Symbiotes, and a character that definitely deserved their fate.

4 Deadpool

Notable Kills: The Marvel Universe

Marvels Wolverine Character Cameos Deadpool

Deadpool, the Merc with a Mouth, doesn’t seem to shut up, nor does he seem to die. With a healing factor that makes him practically immortal, Deadpool can survive nearly enough anything, and his time as a trained assassin and mercenary means he’s an expert with swords, guns, and literally anything that can be used as a weapon. Deadpool will kill anything that gets on his bad side or anyone who has a bounty high enough.

One of Deadpool’s most notable kills comes from when he killed the entire Marvel Universe in a one-shot and non-canon story. If the reader has a favorite Marvel character that isn’t Deadpool, then maybe it’s not a good idea to check out this story, as Deadpool has some rather imaginative ways of killing iconic heroes and villains.

3 Thor

Notable Kills: Sentry, Gorr the God Butcher

Norse Thor Reaching for Mjolnir

Thor, the God of Thunder, has been worshipped by civilizations on Earth, and he has happily killed those that are against his worshippers. As an Asgardian god, Thor uses his godly powers and his hammer Mjolnir to smite his enemies, and he has done for centuries, and he will continue to do so for centuries more until his battle wounds take him, or the last star dies out.

2023 was a stellar year for Marvel Comics, and these storylines show just how great it was.

When Sentry was infected with the Void, he begged Thor to end his life, to avoid the destruction of planets. Whilst Thor was initially adamant that he would not kill Sentry, the release of the Void existed to prove just how dangerous Sentry could be, so Thor did what was right, and killed his ally. Thor will always kill if it is the right thing to do, not just if he feels like it.

2 The Punisher

Notable Kills: The Kingpin

The Punisher from the comics

One of the more infamous characters in the Marvel Universe, the Punisher does not hesitate to kill, much like the murderers of his family did not hesitate to pull the trigger. The Punisher has a warped sense of justice and will kill anyone who dares cross a line when it comes to justice. Frank Castle is a judge, jury, and executioner, which makes him a dangerous hero, and sometimes a villain in the eyes of other heroes with a strict no-kill rule.

The Punisher has killed many people across his time in the Marvel Universe, but perhaps one of his most shocking, but at the same time, expected, came from when he killed The Kingpin, a man responsible for so much pain and crime within the Marvel Universe. Nevertheless, Frank Castle never hesitates to pull the trigger to rid the Earth of criminals.

1 Scarlet Witch

Notable Kills: The Mutant Race

Scarlet Witch with red eyes surrounded by fire

Few Mutants are as powerful as the Scarlet Witch, and this magic user has made her powers a force to reckon with, and one that has been able to alter realities. Scarlet Witch can change everything, and bend reality to her will, even more so when it comes to her grief. Scarlet Witch may have unwillingly killed a few heroes after a nervous breakdown, but when she was of sound body and mind, she made a drastic decision.

Scarlet Witch uttered three words “No more mutants.” And with that, the world turned white, with the erasure of mutants taking over the world. There was no hesitation in this action, no regret in erasing allies and foes alike. Since this time, the Scarlet Witch has proceeded to kill others who dare threaten her or her family.
