Since the announcement of The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, the strange purple rifts appearing around its version of Hyrule have intrigued fans, with many wondering if there would be a way to traverse the underworld they seem to lead to. These rifts appear to devour everything in their path, including Link, who manages to break the crystal prison Zelda is trapped in before he is taken. It was then assumed that players would periodically play as Link in the underworld after Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom‘s ESRB description confirmed Link would be a playable character at some point. However, the game’s latest trailer has finally unveiled the mysterious Still World these rifts lead to, and what it will be like to explore its depths.

Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom‘s Still World appears to function similarly to Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom‘s Depths, in that it provides players with an entirely different world to explore beyond Hyrule’s overworld. Nothing has been revealed yet about why the Still World is invading Hyrule, or how it came to be in the first place, but the “Into the Still World, a Journey Continued” trailer for Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom discloses plenty about its mechanics and what players can expect to find while visiting it.

Everything to Know About Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’s Still World

Based on the footage shown so far of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, both Link and the King of Hyrule have been taken by Still World rifts as they proceed to tear the overworld apart — Link, shortly after his fight with who appears to be Ganon, and the King of Hyrule, in his throne room just before pushing Princess Zelda out of the way to save her. According to the latest trailer, the Still World’s purpose was to capture Link and the King of Hyrule, so while reaching them will certainly be one of Zelda’s goals, getting to the bottom of why these rifts are appearing in the first place will undoubtedly be her final destination.

Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’s Still World Is Composed of Everything Swallowed by the Rifts

Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom‘s Still World is a bizarre place made up of floating fragments of Hyrule that were taken by the rifts appearing in the overworld. Apparently, if they remain in the Still World long enough, these fragments will vanish forever, but it’s unclear whether this will happen in-game at any time. Since the Still World is composed of broken, floating pieces of Hyrule, players will need to use Zelda’s Tri Rod and the Echoes it can create to explore the underworld safely, as its fragmented state has left plenty of gaps for players to cross and Echoes can serve as platforms.

Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’s Still World Features Classic Dungeons, Each With Their Own Environmental Theme

Fans who have longed for Zelda to go back to its classic roots will be pleased to know that Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom features classic dungeons, each with its own environmental theme and a powerful boss that lies in wait at the end. As players venture into the rifts in Hyrule’s overworld, they will encounter unique environments in each one, with some or all of them eventually leading to a dungeon. Inside Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom‘s dungeons, players will be required to solve plenty of puzzles, battling enemies along the way, until they reach the dungeon’s boss.

Judging by the latest trailer, there is at least one earth dungeon, one fire dungeon, and one water dungeon in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom‘s Still World, which makes sense considering the Gerudo Desert, Eldin Volcano, and Jabul Waters were revealed in the game’s “Traversing Hyrule” trailer. The Still World will undoubtedly be an interesting place to explore in Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, based on what has been revealed.
