Tips for Exploring the Wasteland in Fallout Shelter

Here are some tips that can increase your dweller’s chances of survival while exploring the wasteland in Fallout Shelter.

Use Effective Weapons

The weapons that your dwellers use are very important, since they increases their chances of survival and the amount of loot that you get while exploring. As such, make sure to outfit them with the most powerful weapons in your arsenal.

Weapons like the Dragon’s Maw and the Miss Launcher are great for combat and exploration because they deal high damage and have area-of-effect capabilities. Furthermore, outfits such as the Heavy Wasteland Gear and Expert Jumpsuit are essential for survival and resource gathering as they boost Endurance and Agility, respectively.

Level Up Dwellers

Although equipment is one of the most important factors, the level of your dwellers significantly influences their performance in the Wasteland. It goes without saying that higher-level dwellers possess better survival traits, which will increase their chances of success during expeditions.

To increase a dweller’s level in Fallout Shelter, focus on training their Endurance attribute. The higher the Endurance, the more health they’ll gain upon leveling up. You can also increase Endurance by assigning dwellers to training rooms, such as the Fitness Room.

Stock Up on Stimpacks and Radaways

Make sure your explorers have a reliable supply of Stimpacks and Radaways at hand. These resources will treat their injuries and radiation, allowing dwellers to explore more without any danger.

To bolster your supply of Stimpacks and RadAway in Fallout Shelter, focus on completing quests, which often reward these essential items. To increase supply, build and staff Science Labs and Medbays with your Dwellers to produce more of these items.

Pay Attention to Special Stats

SPECIAL Stats affect the overall performance of dwellers, so when you are selecting dwellers to send on a mission to the wasteland, prioritize those with the highest Strength, Endurance, and Luck stats, as these numbers determine the chances of success and loot obtained during expeditions.

As your vault grows, focus on developing training facilities like the Weight Room and Athletics Hall to increase Strength and Endurance stats of your dwellers.

Upgrade Exploration Gear

If you want to prolong a dweller’s stay in the wasteland, it would be wise to invest in new and enhanced exploration gear. Enhanced equipment offers better protection and higher stats, increasing the likelihood of survival and successful exploration. By upgrading gear, you enhance your dwellers’ capabilities, making them better equipped to withstand the challenges of the harsh wasteland environment.

To upgrade gear in Fallout Shelter, build a workshop and put Dwellers in it, and collect recipes and Junk from raiders and Lunchboxes. Increasing the number of dwellers in the workshop can speed up the crafting process. Additionally, keep an eye out for raiders who might have legendary recipes for better gear upgrades.

Monitor Exploration Progress

Lastly, you must keep track of your explorers’ status while out in the wasteland. Observe their health, radiation level, and residual supplies every few minutes and step in if necessary. Recall the dwellers if their health becomes critically low or if they’ve found some useful stuff.

To recall a dweller, tap the Settings icon in the top right corner of your screen, choose the Exploring option for dwellers in the wasteland and, select Recall to bring them back to the vault.
