Highlights

  • The original Black Widow skin has made a comeback in Fortnite after over four and a half years, surprising many fans.
  • While the Black Widow skin and emote returned, the harvesting tool that goes with it, Widow’s Bite, was not released, possibly to keep the original set exclusive.
  • The OG Shop in Season OG of Fortnite may feature items that won’t return to the game for a while, possibly making this a rare opportunity to grab the Black Widow skin.

Fortnite has brought back the original Black Widow skin right before the end of Season OG. Fortnite Battle Royale was released in early access back in 2017, and Epic Games has been adding cosmetic items to the game since then. As Fortnite increased in popularity, the number of skins continued to grow, so players had plenty to choose from. While there are some skins that can be found in the Item Shop pretty often, there are also skins that are barely ever seen.

The Item Shop refreshes every day at 7 PM ET. When this happens, the tabs in the shop change so that gamers have new options to choose from. Even though the Item Shop has grown considerably in the past couple of years, the number of tabs available is quite minuscule compared to the number of cosmetic items that have been created and released in the shop. As a consequence of this, there are some skins that are considered quite rare among the Fortnite community.

Fortnite Leak Teases Winterfest Start Date

Fortnite’s annual holiday event is nearly here, and leaks reveal a possible release date for the highly anticipated winter update.

When the Item Shop renewed its options on November 28, many fans were shocked to see that one of the most coveted Fortnite skins had returned. The original Black Widow skin was brought back to the Item Shop after a total of 1,668 days, which is over four and a half years. This skin had last been seen on May 6, 2019, during the final stages of Chapter 1 Season 8.

When Was the Original Black Widow Skin Last in the Item Shop?

Both the Black Widow skin and her emote, the Widow’s Pirouette, made a comeback. However, players were surprised to see that her harvesting tool, the Widow’s Bite pickaxe, was nowhere to be seen, though there’s perhaps an explanation for that. When Skull Trooper returned to the Item Shop for the first time, many players were outraged because they believed they had a rare OG item that had lost its value. To keep new owners and veteran owners happy, Epic Games added a purple alternative style that was exclusive to those who purchased the skin early on. To prevent this from happening again with the Black Widow skin, it could be that Epic decided to not release her full set.

When Fortnite Season OG launched, Epic Games introduced players to the OG Shop, which would feature “classic, mashup, and fresh items.” The confusing wording on the OG Shop’s announcement led many players to believe that some items added to this season’s shop would be OG Shop timed exclusives and therefore won’t return to the game any time soon. If so, this might be the only chance to grab the Black Widow cosmetic items, which were exclusive to Chapter 1 until now, for a while.
