Highlights

  • Guardians will face the Witness and 6 new Dread enemies in Destiny 2’s Final Shape DLC, enemies that wield Darkness abilities against players.
  • Attendants/Omen are similar to Stasis-wielding Fallen, while Harbingers/Weavers wielding Strand makes them intimidating.
  • Each new Dread enemy in Final Shape DLC will present unique challenges, like the Husk dropping a Lucent Moth-like Geist of Darkness that hunts players and the Grim being a gunbat, which is wholly unique.

Not only will players finally get to face off with the Witness in Destiny 2’s long-awaited Final Shape DLC, but players will also encounter several other new enemy types from the Dread faction. Currently, the Tormentor enemy type is the only Dread faction unit that players can encounter in Destiny 2 outside a few special boss enemies in Raids and Dungeons, whereas The Final Shape DLC will be adding six new Dread enemies: the Attendant, Harbinger, Husk, Grim, Omen, and Weaver.

These new enemies coming in Destiny 2’s Final Shape DLC will wield Darkness abilities against players, unlike any enemy that players have fought so far. Ultimately, even if these new enemy units are only half as powerful as Tormentors or Hive Lightbearers, the Dread enemy faction will still be a game-changer for future content in Destiny 2, providing an interesting layer of difficulty that could reshape the meta for any PvE activities where these enemies are present.

Why It’s Only a Matter of Time Until a Destiny Mobile Game

A few industry factors suggest that Bungie may end up taking its Destiny franchise to mobile gaming in some form eventually.

Every New Dread Enemy Type Coming in Destiny 2’s Final Shape DLC

Attendants and Omen

Attendants and Omen are two sides of the same coin, being a ranged and melee duo that wield Stasis abilities. One of which will specialize in covering the battlefield with Stasis Crystals, while the other will constantly Slow and Freeze players. These two new enemies generally aren’t much different from Fallen and Scorn enemies that can use abilities and debuffs related to the Stasis Subclasses in Destiny 2.

Harbingers and Weavers

Much like Attendants and Omen, Harbingers and Weavers are a ranged and melee duo, except they wield Strand instead of Stasis. Both Harbingers and Weavers will give players a taste of their own medicine by utilizing Strand abilities to either suspend players or pull them around the battlefield, while also casting Threadlings. Strand Suspend builds in Destiny 2 are arguably overpowered throughout any endgame content or PvP game modes, so facing enemies that can wield these powers will present quite the challenge.

Grim

The Grim is the notorious ‘Gun Bat’ coming to Destiny 2. Unlike most other flying enemy types in the game, this enemy’s head will be a critical weak point, but it appears to have a much less predictable range of movement, so landing shots on a flying Grim is easier said than done. While this enemy doesn’t use Strand or Stasis abilities, it can still give players a debuff that appears to be similar to the Pervading Darkness debuff, if not the same.

Pervading Darkness is a stacking debuff that progressively restricts a player’s vision and movement, and at full stacks, it can kill players.

Husks

Husks are a melee-based enemy type, with a weak point in their chest. Upon being killed, Husks will send out a Geist of Darkness that will home in on the nearest player and detonate, similar to Lucent Hive Moths that accompany Hive Lightbearers. Husks may not have as much resilience as other melee units like Dread Tormentors, but the Geists they release when killed is what makes Husks especially deadly.

Any one of these new enemy units can put up a tough fight on their own, but facing a combination of Dread enemies at the same time in The Final Shape DLC will be a fight that players would be wise not to underestimate. Especially if these enemies show up as bosses, Majors, Ultras, or even Champions in Destiny 2, they will each pack a hefty punch that might just make players rethink the builds that they bring into endgame content when The Final Shape DLC releases on June 4, 2024.
