Key Takeaways

  • Destiny 2 is removing episodic weapon crafting starting with Episode: Revenant.
  • While crafting isn’t going away entirely, episodic specific weapons can only be earned through drops and rewards from activities.
  • The change is meant to improve the feeling of chasing gear, moving the game closer to how it was with the Onslaught activity and the Brave Arsenal.

Ahead of the launch of Episode: Revenant, Bungie confirmed the removal of seasonal weapon crafting within Destiny 2, in an effort to improve the feeling of the gear chase. It’s going to be a big week for Destiny 2 players as the next big episode is set to launch on October 8, placing the focus back on Fikrul and his Scorn.

In addition to a new story campaign involving the second echo, Bungie is also planning on some major changes to the core experience. While players anticipate a lengthy set of patch notes ahead of Episode: Revenant, Bungie has been fairly open about many of the changes ahead of the content release, such as the planned Destiny 2 exotic weapon adjustments and buffs. As part of these changes, Bungie has announced the removal of a popular seasonal feature, which has certainly divided the community.

In a recent blog post, Bungie confirmed that with Episode: Revenant, players will no longer see seasonal weapons drop with Deepsight activation. What this means is that the upcoming Revenant weapons will not be craftable after completing a pattern. Instead, players will need to farm weapons by playing Destiny 2 episodic activities to chase a specific roll they want instead of simply crafting it. This won’t be a one-off change either, as this new direction will continue forward into Episode: Heresy as well.

Destiny 2 Is Leaving Weapon Crafting Behind with Episode Revenant Weapons

For many in the community, weapon crafting has been a divisive new addition. On one hand, players can simply craft the weapon they want once a pattern has been unlocked, something which others have stated removes the necessity of the gear chase, a once big part of the Destiny 2 experience. Bungie seems to agree, as the blog went on to indicate that the episodic activities tend to work better when players are attempting to chase the perfect roll. While crafting isn’t being removed, Bungie is attempting to add value back to the gear chase, highlighting specific examples of the fun players had when chasing specific rolls of the Brave Arsenal weapons from Destiny 2: Into the Light.

Following that announcement, Bungie confirmed that Episode: Revenant will be bringing reprised versions of all Garden of Salvation weapons for Destiny 2 players. The gear will feature new perks to chase and the Ancient Gospel hand cannon now hits with Void damage. Better yet, players will be able to unlock patterns on this gear, meaning that once the weapon has been fully unlocked, they can craft customized versions with the perks they want. Players can not only find these weapons inside Garden of Salvation, but visit Hawthorne in the Tower to pick up a quest that awards a Deepsight version every week.
