From the moment players enter the open-world of Dragon’s Dogma 2, they will begin to find several objects that are out of reach. Whether it’s spying a treasure chest on a rock in the forest, or a hidden ladder in the city, there will be moments that the player has to seriously consider how to approach reaching an object. While it’s possible that some of these objects are not meant to be claimed until certain points in the story, there is no doubt that many are accessible through an easy-to-miss feature of the game’s weapon skills.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Review

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is everything fans could want from a Dragon’s Dogma sequel, but that also means it has a few rough edges.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 features multiple sets of weapon skills that are tied to the game’s vocations. Many of these sets feature a skill that, on the surface, may not seem designed for traversal. However, the design of these skills seems tailored for experimentation, with the ability to reach difficult areas one of the biggest benefits. This guide will explore which skills are the best for these tasks, and how players can unlock them.

This guide is a work in progress. The skills explored here may not be the only ones available to players looking for help with traversal. Given the number of vocations, there will likely be several more. As they are discovered, they will be added here.

How to Reach High Chests and Ladders in Dragon’s Dogma 2

DD2-Seeker-High

While there are likely more skills that players can use to reach high areas in Dragon’s Dogma 2, this guide is going to focus on two: Springboard/Launchboard and Concussive Step/Leap. These skills can be acquired very early in your playthrough, and will last until the very end.

How to Use Springboard/Launchboard:

While it isn’t available at first, players will be able to unlock Springboard after reaching the third level of the Fighter vocation. This will occur extremely quickly. Once at level three, players will want to visit a Guild Hall, and unlock the Springboard skill.

Once Springboard is assigned, it will be time to put the skill to use. This skill works by launching a pawn up into the air, and using the left thumbstick to aim. The skill menu shows this ability being used to reach the upper part of large monsters’ bodies, but it works just as well when a treasure chest or ladder is what is out of reach. The only downside to this method, is that it requires a pawn to actually open the treasure chest. However, the AI is actually pretty reliable, and most of the time, they will quickly open a chest or barricaded door fairly quickly.

Launchboard is an advanced form of Springboard. It becomes available to unlock as the Fighter vocation is leveled up.

How to Use Concussive Step/Leap:

Concussive Step is acquired as part of the Thief vocation. Like Springboard, Concussive Step isn’t available immediately, but requires players to reach the third level. The major difference between these skills, and why many might find Concussive Step/Leap more appealing, is the fact that it does not require a pawn. Concussive Step will launch the player higher than any jump. Unfortunately, it will not reach quite as high as Launchboard. Players may have to switch between vocations depending on the specifics of the circumstances.

Concussive Leap is an advanced form of Concussive Step. It will become available as players level up their Thief vocation.

How to Unlock Skills and Change Vocations in Dragon’s Dogma 2

DD2-Guild-Hall

If players are unsure of how to go about unlocking new skills and changing vocations, the answer is simple: the Guild Hall. Any Guild Hall in Dragon’s Dogma 2 will allow players to complete both tasks. In Melve, the Inn is also the Guild Hall, and likely the first place players will experience these systems. Once in Vernworth, players will find the Guild Hall directly below Shakir’s Inn.

Simply head inside, speak to the attendant, and the menu will reveal all the necessary information.
