Some gamers are also interested in picking up old consoles like the PS1 and getting into retro gaming, which could be just as expensive in some areas. Others who are a little luckier wind up in the right place at the right time.
Now that so many players have moved on from their older systems, those with a keen eye are more likely to run into chance encounters, like being able to grab a stack of Xbox 360 games for 25 euros. Best Retro Game Consoles in 2024
Tired of modern consoles and want to step back into the world of classic titles? These are the best consoles for retro gaming.
In a Reddit post, user iPanama360 shares the impressive gaming collection they bought at a yard sale for $60. iPanama360 managed to grab a classic PlayStation 1 with an LCD screen attachment, and a Tomb Raider themed memory card that features Lara Croft. Aside from picking up one of the best consoles from the fifth generation, this gamer managed to find hits from the Halo series, the picture shows off Halo: Combat Evolved, and goes up the release order until Halo 4. They also managed to grab the first, second, and fourth Grand Theft Auto games, Tekken 4, Rocket Power: Team Rocket Rescue, and an Xbox One copy of Cyberpunk 2077.
IPanama360 recognizes their own luck in the post, but some commenters also point out that a copy of Cyberpunk 2077 or a PlayStation 1 could easily both be worth at least the full price of that haul alone. Following its troubled launch, copies of Cyberpunk 2077 were refunded and heavily discounted, but updates improving the game’s quality have caused sellers to restore its initial pricing. Some gamers who are interested in the title may be excited to hear that the PC releases of Cyberpunk 2077 are at a historically low price.
Gamer Finds an Impressive Deal on Classics
Cyberpunk 2077 appears to be the odd one out in this list though, as it’s the latest release of the bunch. Every other game in the post is some level of retro now, starting in 2012 with Halo 4 and all the way back to the 90s. Although most of the other Halo games pictured here are universally loved, Halo 4 has proven to still be controversial over a decade later. Regardless, the Halo games in the picture remain series classics, and being able to find the physical copies of games present in The Master Chief Collection along with retro icons like a PS1, complete with controllers and a memory card, would make any old school gamer happy.
PS1
The PlayStation, sometimes known as the PS1 or PS One was Sony’s first formal foray into the console wars with Nintendo. It belonged to the fifth generation of video game consoles and locked horns with the Nintendo 64 and Sega Saturn.
