Highlights

  • Helldivers 2 players want visible supply lines added to the in-game map to better strategize missions after a recent Major Order defeat.
  • Arrowhead Game Studios issues global challenges and Major Orders to push community efforts in the game.
  • Recently, players were divided on how best to finish a Major Order, resulting in the challenge not getting finished at all.

After suffering a recent, but narrow major order defeat, Helldivers 2 players are asking developer Arrowhead Game Studios to implement a way to see supply lines between planets. Part of the appeal of Helldivers 2, outside of the chaotic nature of missions where unplanned events can take place, is the game’s living world. As players take on missions, they directly influence the galactic war by liberating planets, or on occassion, losing them to the enemy factions as well. This push and pull aspect keeps the game feeling fresh and dynamic, as the global map is constantly changing as progress is made or lost.

To help focus player efforts, Arrowhead Game Studios and its dungeon master Joel, issue global challenges and Major Orders to players. Many times, these orders attempt to push the community to liberate or defend certain planets, with rewards being issued for succeeding. However, a recent major order fell apart at the last minute as the Helldivers 2 community failed to liberate the planet Ubanea to open a path to Tibit in time. Community blame was passed to those still battling on Malevelon Creek as well as players who instead focused on the Terminid faction, though one pressing issue that most players agreed on is that Helldivers 2 is in need of a new map feature.

Another Helldivers 2 Item Causes the Game to Crash

Arrowhead Game Studios warns Helldivers 2 players against using a seemingly innocuous item due to it causing the game to crash.

Helldivers 2 uses invisible supply lines to link pathways to the various planets on the in-game map, essentially hiding valuable information on ways to best reach certain planets. Following a recent Helldivers 2 Major Order defeat, players have become frustrated over the divided effort, many of which believe could have been better organized if the supply line pathways were visible from the in-game map. One player named TheKrzysiek took things a step further by showcasing a simple concept of what that could look like, as zooming into a certain sector would display arrows pointing at the direction players would open should they liberate a particular planet.

By knowing which planets connect, the Helldivers 2 community could better organize which planet to liberate and focus on for the most optimal route to the intended destination. The idea has proven to be a big hit in the community, as others praised the idea and some offered their own tweaks as well. One player said they could add a show all button to reveal a full supply line map, or a way to hide it completely for those who don’t want to see it or keep the map looking cleaner. In fact, one player even provided a direct link to Arrowhead’s zendesk site where players can request new features. While there’s no guarantee of a requested feature being added, many are hoping that if they push hard enough, Arrowhead will at least consider it.

Regardless of the outcome, this push and pull of the major orders system is a key component to Helldivers 2‘s living and breathing universe. Some even view these failures not as a defeat but as a way to push the narrative and lore forward, though it’s likely that many would disagree due in large part to the lost resources for not completing the mission. Either way, players will likely have another opportunity to push further into the heart of the Automaton faction soon, though many fans are likely hoping with a few added features as well.
