How to Install Mods in GTA 5

Some suggest that Rockstar Games is taking its time with the next installment in the GTA franchise, which has to do with the fact that GTA 5 continues to bring in the big bucks despite being over a decade old. Of course, the game’s replayability is a factor in its success, but it is also because players can easily mod the game on PC.

By installing mods in GTA 5, players can enjoy new experiences, make UI alterations, and so on. Also, since Rockstar Games’ magnum opus has been around for quite some time, there are a ton of mods worth checking out. Keeping this in mind, this guide will provide step-by-step instructions to install mods for GTA 5 on PC, along with other useful information.

Installing Mods in GTA 5

Here’s how to install mods in GTA 5:

1. Download and install Script Hook V.
2. Extract the files and move ScriptHookV.dll and dinput8.dll to the main GTA 5 folder.

You can also move the NativeTrainer.asi file to the
GTA 5
folder to use cheats in the game. If not, you can ignore this step.

Some mods require you to install Microsoft .NET Framework, Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Package for Visual Studio 2019 (x64), and the Script Hook V add-on. From the Script Hook V add-on, move the following files to the game’s directory:

• ScriptHookVDotNet.asi
• ScriptHookVDotNet2.dll
• ScriptHookVDotNet3.dll

Apart from the ScriptHook V add-on, you may need to install the LUA Plugin, Copy everything in the zip file, and move them to the game’s directory.

It is also a good idea to install a Mod Manager to configure mods for different keys to prevent them from overlapping and/or delete mods you don’t need anymore.

Once you have completed the necessary steps, you can download mods from different sites, but do so at your own risk since they could infect your PC with viruses. A Word of Caution

While Rockstar Games has not banned players from installing mods in the standalone story mode, the same cannot be said for the online mode. You must ensure all mods are disabled before heading over to the online mode to avoid a permanent ban.

It is worth noting that not all mods can be disabled, so you must be careful about what mods you install beforehand.

If you are not sure how to disable mods before starting GTA Online on Steam, here is what you need to do:

1. Locate GTA 5 in your Steam library.
2. Right-click on the game and select Properties.
3. Locate and click on Local Files.
4. Select Verify Integrity of Game Cache.

This process will re-download the game’s original files and remove all mods, meaning you will need to install them again if you need them later.
