Ajax was an overlooked card when it first hit the Marvel Snap roster, as most players were waiting for Cassandra Nova’s release to determine if Ajax was worth using. However, the duo’s synergy has proven to be quite consistent, especially when the opponent is not running an Arishem deck. In light of this development in the metagame, we’ve assembled what we believe is the best deck for Ajax, thanks to Cassandra Nova’s help.

The Best Deck for Ajax in Marvel Snap

A Cassandra Nova deck with a touch of High-Evo lineups is the best option for Ajax. You can replicate this setup by uniting the following cards: Ajax, Korg, Scorpion, Rockslide, Darkhawk, Mystique, Hazmat, Abomination, Luke Cage, Red Guardian, and High Evolutionary.

How to Play Ajax

Ajax requires a build-up strategy, where you prepare the board for his drop by afflicting as many enemy cards with negative Power as possible. When playing the Cassandra-Evo deck for Ajax, you should use a Hazmat-Luke Cage combo, potentially giving Ajax up to 12 Power. Simultaneously, you must clutter the enemy’s hand with cards like Korg and Rockslide so your Darkhawk can become a powerhouse. Abomination here serves as a surprise element; if you successfully afflict five enemy cards with negative Power, you get a free Abomination for the final turn.

Here’s what to know about Ajax’s performance:

• All cards trigger Ajax’s buff. The effect is universal, so afflicting both opposing and friendly cards with negative Power will indeed buff him.
• Cards must be on the board to buff Ajax. Any negative affliction to cards that stay in hands or decks won’t count toward his buff.
• Location-induced negative buffs trigger Ajax. If a card’s Power is cut by a location effect, Ajax will count that card as a buff activator.

How to Counter Ajax

Luke Cage can entirely nullify Ajax. His effect makes your card invulnerable to Power reduction, leaving Ajax with no buffs. You could also counter Ajax with Enchantress as she removes the text of all Ongoing cards in her location. (The only downside is that Enchantress targets friendly cards as well.)

If Ajax is already on the board and has gained multiple buffs, counter him either with Shang-Chi (if Ajax is bigger than ten) or Shadow King. Shang-Chi would remove him off the board, and Shadow King would revert Ajax back to a 5-7 card.

Ajax Review

At first, Ajax was a dismissible card with negligible synergy with junk decks. However, now that Cassandra Nova has been released, Ajax has found a place in the metagame. Paired with Cassandra’s Power-stealing text, Ajax’s ability can create a consistent powerhouse that might become even more META-relevant once the Arishem fever of Marvel Snap comes to an end.
