A Pokemon fan has designed a fourth evolution stage in the Fairty-type Pokemon Clefable line, presenting Clefairytale in new fan art. Thanks to the talented array of artists found within the Pokemon community, there’s never a short supply of fan art submissions passing the creativity check. From Shiny variants to new evolution designs, Nintendo should take note of the artistry on its doorstep when creating future generations of pocket monsters.

The Pokemon Company and Nintendo are hard at work maintaining the video games for Nintendo Switch, the ongoing anime, the popular trading card game, and the new Pokemon TCG: Pocket mobile title. Adding to the IP, fans were recently surprised to see a collaboration emerge between Pokemon and Aardman, the animation studio behind the Wallace and Gromit movies. The team’s signature clay animation style is bound to bring a fresh take to the Pokemon franchise, but the project brewing between the two companies is still a mystery.

Posted on Reddit by Matratzfratz, concept art was shared within the Pokemon subreddit, showing an original evolution of Clefable into Clefairytale. The fan design showed the pink creature sporting the same quiff, with the addition of a purple mark on its chest and a massive star on its back. The star was said to be made from meteoric metals, allowing Clefairytale to fly using its magic and magnetism. Instead of evolving Clefable the normal way in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the artist had a different idea that channels a feature that could potentially work with the Nintendo Switch 2. It was explained that Clefable would level up and eventually evolve into this fourth form while the console’s light sensor detects a starlit night sky in real life.

The Pokemon community was impressed with the original evolution, and the artist even designed a Shiny version boasting a yellow colorway. Many noted the evolving mechanic under the stars certainly called for Switch 2 hardware, but some city-dwellers expressed their concern about light pollution interfering. Cleffa, Clefairy, and Clefable have a healthy moveset between them in Pokemon games, and the additional star on the fictional Clefairytale’s back could really up the ante.

Clefable started as a Normal-type Pokemon and advanced to become Fairy-type after Generation 6. Starting as Cleffa, the pocket monster uses a Moon Stone to evolve into Clefairy and then its final form, harboring a range of abilities like Cute Charm or Magic Guard. Furthermore, the Generation 1 pocket monster is a popular one to be art attacked in the community, including one Pokemon fan’s Paradox-form design of Clefable, as well as its singing buddy Jigglypuff.
