Stardew Valley: Dead Trees, Explained

Stardew Valley’s 1.6 update contains an enormous list of major and minor additions to the game, alongside patches. One of these new inclusions is the Dead Trees, which started appearing on players’ farms once the update went live and Fall took place. Dead Trees can be understood by their name; trees whose leaves fall off.

As in real life, this effect can be seen in winter, or what would be called Fall in Stardew Valley. Although the attention to detail by the game developers is splendid, there isn’t any visible damage that the Dead Trees have, other than simply losing their leaves and the green aesthetics. However, there are a few details that players would find handy about them. Read on to find out.

Can Dead Trees Be Revived?

According to the official update log, not all trees will suffer the outcome of losing their leaves during Fall. However, a common question regarding Dead Trees is whether they can be brought back to life. The answer here is no.

Players can neither bring them back by watering nor would rain help. Nonetheless, they can still be used for a variety of other purposes despite losing their ‘essence’, such as:

• Cutting down the trees to gain wood.
• Leaving them untouched to add an aesthetic effect to your farm.
• Moving the tappers from the dead tree to a different tree to gain additional tree-generated materials.
• Trees can also be replanted through their seeds. However, players must wait for the Spring to experience growth and ‘life’ in the tree.

Dead trees do not affect other trees on your farm.

Prevention of a Dead Tree

Dead trees can be prevented. However, if you have planted the trees on your farm, nothing can be done. On the brighter side, certain locations on the Stardew Valley map feature areas that do not experience Fall as other areas would. Names here include The Desert and The Ginger Island.

Hence, planting trees in either location would guarantee safety during the fall and free up space on your farm to plant other trees or resources. The recommended location here is The Desert as it will give you more room to plant seeds that are considered profitable. The same case cannot be seen with Ginger Island. However, the latter can still be kept as a secondary option to plant trees and save them from dying out due to fall.
