Dragon’s Dogma 2 starts you out in an isolated corner of the map, but all you have to do to get out is get started on the main quest.

There’s a whole new suite of tools for this Vocation to use, and fans of the previous game’s Warrior will love what Dragon’s Dogma 2 has to offer. Here’s a guide covering the basics of how to play as this class as well as all the best skills, augments, and gear to use.

How To Play The Warrior Vocation

Warrior fighting a chimera in Dragon's Dogma 2

The Warrior is all about knocking enemies down and punishing them when they’re most vulnerable. Their skillset strikes a balance between attacks that stagger and those that inflict massive damage to targets that are on the ground. As such, the Warrior’s primary playstyle revolves around toppling creatures before assaulting them with earthshattering blows or a barrage of greatsword swings. This Vocation is particularly adept at dealing with the bigger monsters of Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Warriors have increased stagger and damage resistance when charging their attacks or using Barge, their unique class mechanic that’s used to cancel recovery animations and interrupt enemies. Trading hits with monsters using this unique hyperarmor mechanic means Warriors have no reason to fear incoming damage. Face any incoming hits head-on, and keep pushing the attack until victory is secured.

Best Skills and Augments

Regardless of your class, always take Core Skills as soon as they become available. These are straightforward upgrades that further enhance a Vocation’s effectiveness at the job it’s meant to do, and there’s no reason not to buy them.

While players can make all Warrior skills work, some of them are notably better than the rest. Skills dictate what roles a character plays in a party, and if you’re looking for combos that work for both your Arisen and your Main Pawn, here are some suggestions:

Best Warrior Skills For The Arisen

Skill

Description

Skyward/Heavensward Sunder

Charge an uppercut swing that deals high damage with strong stagger. Use in conjunction with the Repulse Core Skill to parry incoming attacks.

Savage/Indomitable Lash

Charge an overhead swing that deals massive damage. Always aim for weakspots when using this skill.

Tidal Fury/Wrath

Activate before an enemy’s strike hits to perform a perfect parry and riposte. If you fail the parry, you can still hold the skill button to block with your sword.

RevivifyInspirit

Purge yourself of physical debilitations like Caught Fire, Frostbite, Sleep, Silence, and Unconscious.

Skyward/Heavensward Slash is a must-have for all Warriors thanks to its sheer usefulness. It charges relatively quickly, deals great damage, has incredible stagger potential, and, if you’ve unlocked the Repulse Core Skill, it can even nullify incoming attacks. Knoll Breaker shares the same role as Skyward Slash, though the latter uses less stamina, charges faster, and is more reliable against most enemies.

Savage/Indomitable Slash is your main exploit skill. Whenever a big beast is knocked down, make your way to its weakspot and charge this skill up. You can potentially replace this with Arc of Might later once you get its associated Maister. After unlocking the Breakneck Strike skill, charged attacks that are unleashed right as they reach full charge will deal more damage.

Tidal Fury and Inspirit are your main defensive abilities. The former blocks and parries damage, while the latter cures you of physical debilitations. Use Tidal Fury if you don’t have time to charge Skyward Slash. It’s not as effective as a Fighter’s blocks, though, further differentiating these Dragon’s Dogma 2 classes.

Best Warrior Skills For The Pawns

Skill

Description

Skyward/Heavensward Sunder

Charge an uppercut swing that deals high damage with strong stagger. Use in conjunction with the Repulse Core Skill to parry incoming attacks.

Bellow/Roar

Shout to draw the enemy’s attention.

Tidal Wrath/Fury

Activate before an enemy’s strike hits to perform a perfect parry and riposte. If you fail the parry, you can still hold the skill button to block with your sword.

Inspirit

Purge yourself of physical debilitations like Caught Fire, Frostbite, Sleep, Silence, and Unconscious.

In terms of skills, how you customize Pawns in Dragon’s Dogma 2 depends on what you expect from them. Generally, Warrior Pawns are more reliable when serving as a frontline fighter who draws the aggro of enemies while knocking down priority targets. The skill build remains largely the same, though Savage Lash is replaced by Bellow/Roar so the Pawn can draw aggro. Also, we’re avoiding Savage Lash because Pawn AI tends to spam it against most enemies, often leaving them stuck in a long recovery animation for very little gain. They still use it properly against bosses, however.

If you’re looking for a damage-oriented Warrior Pawn, replace Bellow/Roar and Revivify/Inspirit with Gale/Windstorm Slash and Surging/Diluvian Strike. Both are great for when the Pawn is standing on top of a monster.

Verve (Thief – R9)

The Augments above will make knocking things down easier while preserving your health, improving damage, and increasing survivability. This does require maxing out the Thief class for the Verve, however. If you’re not interested in playing that Vocation, use something else like the Fighter’s Provocation or Archer’s Lethality.
