Rare’s classic third-person shooter sci-fi game Jet Force Gemini is making its way to the Expansion Pack tier of the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service. Nintendo Switch Online features multiple tiers for fans to choose from. The base tier gets users access to a variety of classic games from the NES, SNES, and other platforms, while the Expansion Pack tier comes with all those games plus titles that were originally released for the Game Boy Advance, Sega Genesis, and Nintendo 64.
At the time of this writing, there are 26 Nintendo 64 games available to Switch Online Expansion Pack subscribers. Nintendo got things started with a big update in October 2021, adding some of the platform’s heaviest hitters, including Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and has steadily added more N64 games to the service since then.
Nintendo gave fans a good idea of what they could expect from future N64 additions by announcing them in advance during a Nintendo Direct presentation, which is why Jet Force Gemini‘s impending addition has come as a surprise. Jet Force Gemini was not part of the previously-announced N64 Switch Online Expansion Pack games, but it will nevertheless be joining the subscription service at some point in December. Nintendo has yet to nail down a specific date for the game.

There is still one promised Nintendo 64 game left to be added to the Switch Online Expansion Pack in western territories. 1080 Snowboarding was previously confirmed for the Switch Online Expansion Pack, but still has yet to make its debut on the service. Gamers in Japan are not only waiting for 1080 Snowboarding, but they also have Harvest Moon 64 to look forward to as well. Unless Nintendo decides to issue multiple Switch Online Expansion Pack updates in December, which seems unlikely, the most likely scenario is that those games have slipped to 2024.
As far as Jet Force Gemini goes, it earned mostly positive reviews at the time of its release, and while it’s not remembered nearly as fondly as Rare’s bigger N64 games, it has become a cult classic. Those without the Switch Online Expansion Pack can play Jet Force Gemini on Xbox through the Rare Replay collection.
